External and Ethical Issues
As I explored the roles and responsibility of a school administrator my biggest fear was the external context. I didn't know if i would ever be prepared and educated enough to deal with legal and political issues. I was unsure how one law class could possibly prepare me for all of the potential situations that could arise if i were in an administrative position. Although this is still the most challenging area for me, I am now comfortable knowing that if I continue to carry myself in an ethical manner I can handle any situation that arises. As long as I always keep the best interests of students in mind and act in a professional manor that I will be successful.
One thing I always make sure I do as a teacher is remind myself why I do what I do, simply to help students achieve. Counselors know that they can come to me with any student regardless of their history, behavior, or background. They know that I put the students interests first and do everything in my power to help them earn their credit in my class. This semester I have taken on a special seminar class (non academic) that meets two days a week. Seminar is viewed somewhat as a study hall that students use to stay caught up in their academic classes. My seminar consists of students that are earning an extra credit that they lost somewhere along the way. Some of my students are taking an online credit recovery class, while others are completing a elective credit in online course I have developed. Because of this special seminar class, these students will now be able to graduate on time with thier class.
